Who is Del Dawson?
And how is she qualified to help troubled kids?
Del has quite a varied history
in her work and in her many talents and skills. She has spent her
life here on the Western Slope. She holds a Bachelors degree and
was a high school History teacher for many years. Del is a lifelong
rancher, raising horses, cattle, hogs, dogs and children. Much of
this was done on her own.
With 3 grown children and 12 grandchildren,
she's had a lot of experience working with kids and animals. From
this springs her desire to share her dream with other people, that
of using the ranch and the animals to help kids who are struggling
so they can find love, learn respect and responsibility, and feel
better about themselves.
Among Del's many life experiences
are her work as a peer counselor; cafe owner and sale barn operator;
home builder, decorator & remodeler; antique store owner, landscape
artist and sports coach for soccer, basketball, baseball and football.
Instead of contemplating retirement,
as most people would do after a lifetime of working and raising
a family, Del is focused now on realizing her dream. She is working
to provide a place for kids to come where they can learn to work
with the animals and learn respect and responsibility.
